Jeff Signs with Churchill

Churchill Swimfins is proud to announce the addition of Jeff Hubbard to the team! On Thursday August 21st 2008, Hubbard inked the deal and then turned around and won the USBA HB Pro contest that went down this weekend using his new Churchill fins for the first time in competition. In early 2009 Churchill plans to release the Hubb Makapuu signature fin which will fuse the traditional Churchill fin shape with all of Hubb’s custom designs to make the most high performance bodyboarding fin in the world.

In 1936 Owen Churchill adapted structural concepts from dolphins to develop the world’s first pair of swimfins. The unique design of the Churchill Makapuu fins is universally recognized by bodyboarders and bodysurfers as the optimum design for power, style and acceleration. Churchill swimfins are sold worldwide and are endorsed by some of the world’s best bodyboarders, so it was only a natural fit to have aerial specialist and 2006 World Champion Jeff Hubbard join the team. Jeff’s radical high performance riding is admired by most all bodyboarders and to pair that up with an iconic fin like the Makapuu is a match that was long anticipated!

This past weekend’s BZ USBA pro/am contest in Huntington Beach went insane with contestable 2-3 foot waves throughout the 2 days of competition. The BZ team riders surfed really well with Jeff Hubbard winning the Men’s pro, Brian Stoehr taking 4th in pro dk, Travis Smith winning the 13-18 ams, Monica Delmore taking 4th in womens and Drew Anderson (pictured here) taking a close second in the Open ams. For more information and video of the event, also check out www.usbbatour.org

ROCKET KLIEN
T-street local and 11 year old BZ super grom Rocket Klein sent up some sweet shots to us of him having some fun in the summer sun when the waves are flat. Rocket is still really young, but is already focusing on style and has a serious bag of tricks for such a young age. Rocket will be competing at the USBA event coming up this month at Huntington Beach. For more info on the BZ USBA HB event, go to www.usbatour.org

JON DAVIS

Jon Davis will finally back in the water soon as he just got his last wrist surgery where they took out the huge screw that had been in his wrist for almost a year. Jon is amped to hit up some big Wedge this summer! We also received some positive news from Jon about Ron at Alternative Surf who recently got hurt at the Wedge and he reports that Ron is able to move around in a wheelchair and has even been getting on the internet here and there. Please keep Ron in your prayers and let’s hope he has a quick recovery.

This Saturday and Sunday, BZ will be doing free board demos and bodyboard lessons at the San Clemente Ocean Festival. For more info on the event, go to www.ebodyboarding.com
JOSE MARQUINA
BZ’s Jose Marquina sent us a few pictures he snapped from the Sport Chalet promos back in June and more recently the SDS promos that went down in NSW Australia during the annual Shark Island contest. Jose reports that OZ has been super cold and dead flat as far as waves go. He is planning to take off soon to Chile for the IBA World Tour event over there and then head back to California for the USBA BZ/Sport Chalet Huntington Beach event on August 23rd and 24th.

JON DAVIS
Seal Beach BZ rider Jon Davis reports that the south swells this summer have been hitting well up in the Northern Orange County area. Here’s some sweet shots Marty Kooistra took of Jon having some summer time fun in the tube at the Wedge.

Here's a quick edit from Jose Marquina's visit to the BZ offices in Oceanside.Enjoy-

Hey everyone, just finished up a four day session from the late season north swll. Waves have been pretty epic. Timmy Hamilton got some epic video clips of Hubb, Travis Smith, and I for the next Boogie Nation video. Anyways, back on Kauai now to see what this new south swell has to offer. Hopefully get some new shots from it too. Also looking forward to the Cali contest the first weekend of June, should be a fun one!
David Phillips-

This past weekend Brittney was spotted using a BZ Advantage board somewhere in Costa Rica.

BZ grom Jon Davis, just got out of surgery after hurting his wrist while busting an air in Hawaii. Jon now has a screw in his wrist to keep it nice and strong and he is expected to be back in the water in like 6 weeks

Well we just finished up with all the tradeshows in January, which included Surf Expo in Orlando Florida and the ASR show in San Diego. Below are some pictures of what went down, taken by BZ marketing head honcho Mark Hagen.

Hubby at ASR cruising with the Shop Tahiti crew. Shop Tahiti is one of the main surf shops in Tahiti and they love the BZ and bodyboarding in general.

Brian Stoehr made it out to Surf Expo and on one of the nights after the show, he took all our money in a round of miniture golf. Not only is Stoehr an amazing bodyboarder, he's also a bona fide street hustler!

While at Surf Expo we met the guys at Adrenalina surf shop and they have a flowrider in the middle of their shop at the Florida mall. The guys were so cool that they let team BZ come ride the flowrider at 9:00 at night. It was cool and everyone had a blast. Here Stoehr demonstrates how to do a acid drop DK drop in on the Flowrider.

Jose Marquina even flew out for the ASR show and here he was posing with a Hummer that had a BZ license plate. Jose doesn't see to many Hummers in OZ, so everytime he sees one here, he gets a little excited!

Chile bodyboarder and all around good guy Christian "Tomate" Peralta chills with Hubb during a mexican food fiest as Rockin' Baja Tacos in down town San Diego.

Boom! Westside Willsy hitting it with power.

Our hawaiian west side ripper Josh Wills sent us some photos of himself tearing it up in his home town. Josh has been under the radar lately, but hands down the kid rips and is still busting whenever it is breaking and we guarnatee he will be a threat on the 2008 USBA contest tour. Below is a mini photo log of what Josh Willsy is all about. Big thanks to Glen Yoza from Static Productions for providing the photos.

Lip-Spin with ease. All in a days work for JW.

This spot is notorious for getting cover shots, too bad if your not local you will probably take a beating from the shallow reef and then when you get out you'll find 5 big dudes ready to make sure you won't come back. Willsy is local.

Cooking wild boar on the Westside.

Westside = broken cars on the beach and perfect barrles for locals only.

Another truck bites the dust.

Go Warriors. Hawaiian style.

Glen Yoza working the angles during a beautiful sunset. Another thing to note about Willsy, is that he is one of the best stand-up bodyboarders in the world. Big floaters, pop-shuvits and carves, no problem cuz.

Air Revo with a hard landing, just the way Josh likes it.

Ahhhhhhhhh. Westside sunset.

Huge Congrats goes out to Travis Miyazaki and his wife Jana for giving birth to a beautiful baby girl this past Thursday. BZ would like to welcome Malie Aiko Miyazaki into the world and with Travis as her dad, I am sure that she will be in the water in not time!

Congratulations to BZ's Venezulian rider Megwyn Saunders for taking 1st place in the Roxy girls bodyboard championships in Costa Rica this past weekend. In other BZ, Shelby Craig will be moving from So Cal to the beautiful city of Sydney Australia. In Austraila, Shelby will be studying abroad as well as sampling some insane surf with BZ's own Jose marquina.

BZ's longest sponsored team rider, Nick "Crowbar" stopped by the office today and did a cool video interview that discusses his recent injuries and what he does outside of bodyboarding. Nick is one of the most colorful riders in the bodyboarding industry so this interview is bound to spark a laugh or two. Enjoy! Click here to watch.

Some of the team riders have been stopping by the office, heres a few photos.

eBodyboarding.com's Jay and Vicki Reale are proud to announce the birth of their son Kieran on Friday, November 23rd. The little grom is busy filling diapers with brown sludge, much to the delight of his sleep-deprived parents.  Be sure to look for him in a lineup in south Orange County in a few years!

Here is a vintage picture of a BZ delivery van in Brazil, we thought it was pretty cool so we decided to post a picture of it.

Our Kauai rider Travis Miyazaki rips on a bodyboard, but also does some cool editing and he decided to share an edit he did of last years Pipeline Pro contest that Hubb won. The edit is pretty cool becuase it has a lot of sick waves that haven't been shown in all the videos. Thanks for sharing Travis!

BZ rider Chris Monroe sent some fun looking pics from Jimmyside that mokitom.com took. Looks like there was a couple fun barrels a few weeks ago.

Happy Thanksgiving from all the crew at BZ. Go out there and take advantage of the 4 day weekend!!!!!!!!!!

Jon Davis stopped by the BZ offices today, so we decided to interview the little man with a funky laugh.Click here to watch.

Check out the new Rip Curl Commerical from the Dot Dot Dash video It shows Jose doing his thang.

Above is a couple photos of BZ team riders Jeff Hubbard and Brian Stoehr busting some big tow out airs during the Fling for Bling event at the USBA contest. Stoehr is actually almost as high as the pier.Check out the USBA website.

Recently California has been going off with waves and it was great because Jeff Hubbard was in town so we got to capture some sweet footage of him at Wedge. Click me to spend sometime with Jeff.

Also on the east coast Chris Monroe won the pro division of the 4th annual Morey Outer backs pro and Drew Anderson took 4th in the juniors division.

Jeff Hubbard talks about Chris Monroe's secret move.

Here is a couple of sweet photos from our New York Team rider John Heyman. John has been dominating the ESA circuit for years now and has reported that there is more bodyboarders than ever in the New York area. It is amazing that New York of all places has waves this good.

News from Jose Marquina

The past couple of months have been pretty slow for great waves in Oz. After having had one of the best winters in a longtime, I guess all good things must come to an end at least for a short while hope. It’s weird but it got to the point where I needed a break from scoring…is that possible? Ha-ha. I shouldn’t be rubbing it in as I know it was a pretty slow summer in Cali. I kept watching the charts keen to come over for a big south. Looks like I’ll have to just keep waiting. I just got back from a surf/road/party trip with Rip Curl and Ford who made a limited edition truck that people who bought it went into a competition to win a surf trip with Rip Curl riders. We ended up in Byron Bay which is an epic place for sun/surf/girls and party…also sharks…how’s on one of the days my Rip Curl team manager saw a shark and paddled in then 2 days later on the day we left a lady was bitten by one in the same spot…HECTIC!!!!
The next couple of weeks is promo and premiere time with summer on its way and all the new movies been released and everyone really getting into the beach thing. The one to watch out for is by Simon Fisher and Grant Tyrell called Dot Dot Dash. They have scored some insane exclusive footage which is hard to do these days and have edited a tight and dynamic flick. I’ll check back in after the premieres to fill you in on the goss of what went down…until then keep smiling!!!

News from Charles Marabella

Charles Marabella stopped by the BZ office today to pick up a new board and some gear, so we did a quick little video interview of him. Check the FEATURES page to see the Charles interview video and learn what makes this unique kid tick.

News from Nick " Crowbar" Frattone

Here’s some photos from BZ team rider Nick Frattone took of Camp Pendleton, which is right by our houses. Pretty scary stuff.

Big congrats to Sergio Alonzo for winning the Venezuela pro contest. Sergio won on a stock Hubb 41.5 and is only 17 years of age! Here are some pictures of the event and the last picture is the champ, Sergio Alonzo.

News from Travis Smith
If it wasn’t for bad luck, BZ super grom Travis Smith would have no luck at all. After 2 months recovering from a broken shoulder in Indo, Travis gets finned by a surfboard in the face just after one week back in the water. It was pretty heavy as I heard he spent 2 hours in plastic surgery and copped 50 stitches in the mouth! Fortunately I just talked to Travis’ little brother Koa and he said Travis gets the stitches out in a week and will be ripping soon enough! In other news, check out this sweet frame grab of Charles Marbella doing a sweet invert at T-Street this past weekend. Video frame grab provided by www.5-south.com

As some may have known or not know, BZ east coast rider Brian Stoehr also runs the biggest series of car shows on the east with his business partner and rap star Funk master Flex. Check out the pics Brian sent us with all of Rap’s elite players.

Here is one from Myrtle Beach with Hurricane Chris performing. "hey bebe"

Here is a quick photo for you for a Kia Shine concert from one of the car show.  The guy in the green shirt is Funkmaster flex. Me in the middle and Kia Shine (sings "Krispy") in the foreground.

Xzibit and I

BZ is happy to announce the addition of David Phillips to the team. David hails from the beautiful island of Kauai and has been dubbed the next big thing to come from the hawaiian islands. David just left today for the Phillipines where he will fiming with the Boogie Nation guys for his segment in the BN9 video due to release soon. There is also rumors floating that David has a 720 in the vid, so should be a solid vid. David also just linked up with ebodyboarding.com, so this kid is on a roll!

Huge congrats goes out to Jeff Hubbard for taking out the entire east coast leg of the USBA tour this past couple weeks. Jeff took back to back wins at both the Jenks Scion Pro in New Jersey and The Rockstar Pro in New York. For more info on the USBA contest tour, check out www.usbatour.org

As rated in PEOPLE magazine as one of the hottest 25 things to do this summer, bodyboarding is the latest buzz in Hollywood. Attached is both Lauren Conrad from the MTV show the Hills modeling  the BZ Advantage bodyboard.

"JetlagOnline - The Way We Travel" BZ team rider Shelby 'SFLB' Craig has been busy this past year not winning tow-out contests, but developing a fresh new travel magazine entitled Jetlag. Well the BZ crew just got back from the Florida Surf Expo tradeshow and everyone there was stoked on the new 2008 BZ board line. Speaking of Florida, make sure to check out Florida BZ rider Austin Dalton's profile on the team section. He can pullone-handed el rollos, can you?
Random shots from the Trade Show.

Sorry for the lack of news it has been busy at the BZ compound, we have been hard at work finalizing the 2008 product line and I must say, it looks GOOD!

We just got word that BZ super grom Travis Smith broke his shoulder while shooting for the new Boogie Nation video in Indonesia. We wish Travis a speedy recovery and he said he will be back in the water in about a month.

We also just scoped some killer pictures of Charles Marbella and Jon Davis from their recent trip to Mainland Mexico with Pezpix.com. I believe the story for the trip will be featured in Bodyboarder and Crysis magazine. With south swells on tap for California, it looks like ozzie rider Jose Marquina will be flying out to score some Wedge pits and help BZ at the ASR tradeshow happening September 7-9th in San Diego. Also Check out the BZ family edit in the media section.

More Mr. Marbella
Check out his full section in the features page. This kid charges! Please be patient, Slow downloading...

Above is some pictures sent in by BZ grom team rider Charles Marbella. The ones where he is dressed like a rapper/gangster is from his skit in the new Uprising Films DVD entitled Ring of Fire. The other picture is of Charles with the San Clemente boyz at the Ring of Fire premiere and that's Rob Isambert in the front, he made the video. Check out the new Bodyboarder magazine, we spotted it at the Ralph’s here in Oceanside, but you can find them at all Ralphs, Krogers, 7-11’s and Vons stores. Having a bodyboard magazine distributed in all these outlets is a huge push for the sport!

Unfortunately no waves here on the west coast, it is officially lake status! Justin Butorac from ebodyboarding.com sent us some pics from his trip last week to deep Mexico where he scored flawless reeling 6 foot barrels. Judging from the pictures it looks like he definitely scored!

Some Friday news for everyone out there. First check out these pictures that go along with the Dave Levin video on the features section, notice how he is the only one out?

Second make sure to check out a nice little urban bodyboarding video with riding by BZ groms Drew Anderson and Jon Davis. They know what to do when the waves are flat!

Here are some photos that Glenn Yoza from www.staticvm.com sent of Josh Wills throwing down hard at this past weekend's USBA contest. Josh barely missed making the finals but people said he was one of the days top performers! Also Check out a sweet video that BZ affiliate Dave Levin sent us from his recent trip to Tahiti. Here is a story about it too!

Lots of news here at the BZ compound! First off, huge congrats to Jeff Hubbard for taking 4th place in the Shark Island contest, for more info and pictures from the event check out www.fluidzone.com . Next time you are in a Ralph’s, 7-11 or Kroger supermarkets make sure you check out the magazine rack because now they all carry Bodyboarder magazine! Also check out some of the first submissions below from the Hubb Power Packy art contest. Last but not least, make sure to check out the team section where we added a profile on Newbury park ripper Nick Ostrovsky.

Jose Marquina reports some OZ news for us with some pictures.

After coping 3 weeks of pumping swell with the whole east coast of Oz firing, all the BZ pros were finally surfed out and on hand to sign autographs and hang out with the groms for some fun promo's at leading bodyboarding stores, Bodyboarders Surf Co, Solid Bodyboarding and Emerald Surf. The Ozzie groms were stoked to see the current World Champ and his fellow BZ team buddies.

During the SIC lay days the BSC Aussie Tour event was held in great waves at Avalon for the first day of competition. On the finals day the waves eased back dramatically and made getting the second wave score that extra bit. Hubb ended up in 5th and Jose in 9th.

Congrads to Josh Bickerstaff of Laguna Niguel for winning the J1 contest. Make sure to check out this months giveaway for the Hubb Power Packy!

Last November, BZ east coast man Brian Stoehr did tow-outs here in California for the first time at the USBA event at Imperial Beach and it was pretty obvious he was hooked. Since then Stoehr has bought a ski and rumors have been flying that he is the tow-out master over on the right coast. Check out this photo he sent busting a sweet tow-assisted back flip.

Above are some pictures taken by Shelby Craig of Crowbar in Laguna last night. Southern California has been getting some fun summertime south swells with water hitting 72 degrees.

This past weekend was also the USBA contest at Sandy beach in Oahu and it was reported the waves were fun and the BZ boys surfed well. For more info on the USBA bodyboard tour go to www.usbatour.org.

Below is a picture of the conditions from the Sandy’s comp. Also here is a link to the video and story we got from the Wavehouse flowrider a couple weeks ago and photos here.

We are getting reports from Australia that the waves are going off over there and Hubb, Jose, Ormerod and Player are all scoring surf and waiting for the Shark Island contest to finish up. Things are also warming up here in the US and summer temps are blazing so hopefully everyone is staying cool in the surf. Hope everyone has a good weekend and to celebrate we built a little video of Yamo shaping a board up. Enjoy. P.S.The winner of the J1 will be announced on Monday Afternoon! Good Luck
